Welcome to Tao of Clay – Your ceramic journey starts here!
We’re so excited to have you in the studio—congratulations on signing up for your first Tao of Clay course! Whether you’re here to try your hand at the wheel for the first time or to dive deeper into hand-building, we can’t wait to see what you create. Here’s everything you need to know before your first class.
Parking info
Tao of Clay is located at 1012 Sicard St, San Diego, CA 92113.
• Free Parking: Available on National Ave—a great option if you want to avoid time limits.
• 2-Hour Parking: Sicard St. offers 2-hour parking until 6 PM.
• Please Note: We do not have a dedicated parking lot, so street parking is your best bet. Arriving a few minutes early can help you snag a good spot!
What to bring & how to prepare
Tool Kits:
• We provide shared tool kits for all students, but if you’d prefer your own set, feel free to bring one along or purchase a kit from our on-site shop.
What to wear at the studio:
• We’ll have aprons for you, but it’s always best to wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy.
• Short nails and hair ties are highly recommended—they’ll make working with clay a lot easier and more enjoyable.
Bring your refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.
Using Kiln Fire – Your studio hub:
• We use Kiln Fire to manage studio bookings, firing submissions, and even snack and tool purchases.
• We’ll walk you through how to use it in class and help you set up your account!
Firing your work
Your class includes firing for five pieces—plenty to get a feel for the process and see your creations come to life!
• Want to fire more? No problem! Additional pieces can be fired for a small fee, and we’ll go over how that works during class.
• Our team will handle the finishing touches—glazing and firing your work—so you can focus on the creative process.
We can’t wait to get started and watch your ideas take shape! If you have any questions before your class, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to help.
