Multi-Week Courses

  • Intro to Throwing

    This course is focused on the fundamentals of throwing technique including wedging, centering, trimming, basic shaping and glazing. Included in the course is an introduction to the principles of throwing and mindfulness and the integration of the two.

  • Throwing 2: Skill Refinement

    The focus of this course is the refinement and integration of the fundamental skills of throwing introduced in Throwing 1. We will introduce students to closed-neck bottles, lidded jars, pitchers, larger bowls, and plates. There will be a deepening of the mindfulness practice and its application in the ceramic process.

    Prerequisite Note: If you have not taken a wheel throwing class before please start with Intro level 1. Students enrolling in Throwing 2 should be confident in centering 2 lbs of clay and throwing a 6” tall cylinder.

  • Throwing 3: Further Studies

    This course is a continuation of the throwing track and introduces more complex forms and techniques including teapots, thrown and altered forms, throwing off the hump, and an introduction to decorative mark making.

    Prerequisite Note: If you have not taken a wheel throwing class before please start with Intro level 1. Students enrolling in Throwing 3 should be confident in centering 4 lbs of clay and throwing a 12” tall cylinder.

  • Intro to Handbuilding

    In this six-week course we introduce students to the basic techniques of hand-building assembly including coil building, slab building, surface treatments, and the hand carving technique of Kurinuki.

  • Coiled Sculptures: Organicity & Clay

    In this unique course, you'll explore the art of coiling to create expressive and organic sculptures, while embracing the principle of Organicity—the idea that creativity flows naturally when we trust the process.

  • Slab Constructed Sculptures: Unity & Clay

    Create a stacked sculpture using slab construction, focusing on the principle of unity. This course will guide students through the process of building an interconnected sculpture, exploring how individual pieces come together to form a cohesive whole.

  • Developing Glazes Through Testing

    An Introduction to the basic methodologies of testing glazes using progressions and blends. This class will mostly consist of glaze testing; students will have completed dozens of tests over the duration of the course. This course will set the foundation and get you started on the journey of developing a set of glazes.

Workshops

  • Pit Fire Workshop

    A three-day workshop on the ancient art of pit firing, where open flames produce natural, earthy tones and organic patterns on ceramics. The first two days include demos and work time to create pieces, followed by a communal beach firing a week later, completing the process in an open-flame pit.

  • Kurinuki Cup Workshop

    An introduction to the Japanese art of Kurinuki through carving a cup from a solid block of clay. Students can achieve wonderfully gestural, unique, and highly textured wares in this 1 day workshop.

  • Ceramic Furniture with Austin Coudriet

    Learn advanced coil and slab-building techniques as you craft your own ceramic chair, stool, or side table. This workshop dives deep into moisture control, internal supports, and drying methods to ensure strong, functional designs. Perfect for intermediate to advanced makers ready to push their skills further.
