Born and raised in Germany and self-taught as a potter, I work between my studios in San Diego, California, and the St. Croix river valley on the border of northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. These two distinct landscapes—one shaped by the Pacific Ocean, the other by the forests and rivers of the Upper Midwest—continually inform my relationship with clay and the surfaces I create.My work explores the expressive potential of texture and the intrinsic character of different clay bodies. I move between coarse, dark, grogged stoneware and translucent porcelain, allowing each material to speak in its own voice rather than forcing uniformity. The clay itself is the primary subject. Surface, weight, translucency, and touch become essential elements of each piece.
