Our Nerikomi Cup Workshop is a decorative hand-building class focused on the Japanese technique of Nerikomi—layering and compressing different colored clays to create intricate, repeatable patterns that run through the body of a piece.
In this 4-hour hands-on workshop, students will use two contrasting clay bodies with natural color variation to build their own patterned slabs. You’ll learn how to prepare, stack, slice, and assemble clay to form precise designs and apply them in the construction of a functional cup. We’ll explore composition, surface treatment, and techniques for showcasing the complexity of your patterns through thoughtful form and finishing.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of Nerikomi and a unique piece that reflects your creative choices.
