This 4 week program is designed to help students maintain a practice between classes, develop consistency, refine technique, and explore the creative process at their own pace. Open Studio is intended for students who have previously taken a throwing class at Tao of Clay and want independent, self-directed studio time. Over each 4-week session, students have dedicated access to the classroom space to practice wheel throwing without instruction. Staff will be present in the studio for oversight and support if needed.
Students will have access to our house clay and wheels, paying only when firing pieces at a rate of $5 per pound.
Level: Returning Students
Prerequisite: Completion of a previous Tao of Clay throwing class is required. Open Studio is not instructional.
—
Tools & Materials: Tools are not provided. Please bring your own tools as needed. A selection of tools is available for purchase in our on-site shop. We provide all clay required during your session. No outside clay or glazes are permitted, and our clay may not leave the studio.
Firing: Pieces are fired at $5 per pound. Only work created during Open Studio sessions may be fired. Firing will take place two weeks after the course ends. Students may return to glaze their work at any time during Tao of Clay open hours. Please check the studio calendar for any closures that may affect regular access.
Studio Access: Open Studio students may access the studio only during the enrolled Open Studio session. Registration does not include access outside of the stated Open Studio hours. Open Studio takes place in the classroom space only. Storage is available for the duration of your Open Studio enrollment; all work and materials must be cleared out at the end of the session term. After the session ends, students may return only to glaze work created during their Open Studio class.
Please note: Cleanup begins 30 minutes before the end of each session. Plan your work time accordingly.
We reserve the right to cancel the class due to low enrollment or for other necessary reasons.
