Slab Built Mugs Workshop

This workshop is a great introduction to clay for beginners and anyone looking to make their very own handmade mug! Using soft slabs of clay, students will learn how to build functional mugs from the ground up—starting with rolling and cutting clay, shaping forms, and assembling with basic hand-building techniques.

You’ll explore how to add volume to a flat slab, form clean joins, and attach handles that are both comfortable and sturdy.

Each student will complete one mug during the session. After bisque firing, your work will be glazed by staff in a glaze of your choice and available for pickup approximately 4 weeks after the workshop date.

Level: Beginner

Prerequisite: No prior experience is necessary. Open to all skill levels.

Tools & Materials: We provide all the clay, glaze, and tools needed for this introductory course. A selection of our favorite tools are also available for purchase in our on-site shop.

Firing: The course fee includes firing for one piece, which will be glazed by our staff. Finished pieces will be ready for pickup during open hours, approximately 3–6 weeks after the workshop.

Studio Access: This is a one-time workshop with no studio access outside of the scheduled class. Day passes are available for $40 for students who wish to continue their work beyond workshop hours.

Cancellation Policy:

• Cancel more than 14 days in advance for a full refund.
• Cancel between 7–14 days in advance for a 50% refund.
• Cancellations within 7 days of the class start date are non-refundable.

Missed Classes:

We do not offer refunds or make-up classes. If you need to miss a class, our staff will do their best to help you catch up during the next session or open studio hours.
