Join our founder, Josh Herman, and ceramic artist Theo Hirschfield for a focused, high-level workshop on throwing larger forms. With two experienced instructors offering distinct approaches, this is a rare opportunity to deepen your practice while working at a new scale.

Designed for intermediate students, this three-week course explores the technical and physical demands of going big. Dive into throwing large with hands-on support to center more clay, build height and volume, and maintain strength and stability in your forms.

You’ll develop control and intention through techniques like coil-and-throw and sectional throwing, learning how to construct larger, more ambitious pieces with confidence.

Ideal for those ready to move beyond smaller work and seriously expand what’s possible on the wheel.

Level: Intermediate

Prerequisite: Students should be comfortable centering over 5 lbs and throwing basic forms independently.

Tools & Materials: Tools are not provided for this course and students are required to bring their own. Please see the required tool list below. We will provide sponges, buckets, and all clay needed for the class. A selection of our favorite tools is also available for purchase in our on-site shop.

Required Student Tool List:

• Throwing ribs (wood and flexible/plastic)
• Pin tool
• Wooden knife
• Any additional throwing tools you prefer to use

Firing: This class is focused on the process of throwing rather than finished pieces. Firing is not included in the course fee. If you’d like to keep your work, limited storage space will be available, and pieces can be fired at cost.

Our standard firing rate is $5/lb. Oversized pieces may be subject to additional firing surcharges based on size.

Studio Access: As a student, you’ll have access to the studio outside of class hours to practice and develop your skills further!

We reserve the right to cancel the class due to low enrollment or for other necessary reasons.

Missed Classes:

We do not offer refunds or make-up classes. If you need to miss a class, our staff will do their best to help you catch up during the next session or open studio hours.
